Pupils can only achieve their potential if their focus is on learning. The school has a well established Positive Behaviour policy. Pupils have a copy of the classroom rules in their planners and copies are available in classrooms. Pupils who behave are rewarded through our credit system, positive praise by teachers, recognition in assemblies, gaining access to reward trips, prizes on Presentation Evening. Classroom Rules ➣ Follow instructions the first time. ➣ Put up your hand and wait to speak. ➣ Listen when someone else is speaking. ➣ Focus on your own work. ➣ Wear your uniform in the correct manner ➣ Bring the correct equipment.
Health and Safety Rules ➣ Do not leave the school premises during morning break and at lunchtime. ➣ Do not bring into school dangerous items such as knives, pocket knives and other sharp objects. ➣ Smoking materials, alcohol and illegal substances are not permitted on the school premises. ➣ Aerosol deodorant and other aerosols are not permitted in school. ➣ Tippex and other forms of liquid paper are not permitted. ➣ Eating and drinking are only permitted in designated parts of the building. ➣ Pupils will walk on the left and obey one-way systems in the building. ➣ Pupils require a permit from the office to come to school on a bicycle. ➣ Pupils should be familiar with specific safety rules in practical areas. ➣ Pupils should be aware of "Fire Drill" procedures for each part of the
REWARDS
The credit system: It is assumed that each pupil will come to each lesson on time, with the correct equipment, all necessary work completed and keep the classroom rules. A credit is printed for each lesson and registration in the planner. A lapse in the expected behaviour will result in the loss of the credit. Participation in reward events will depend on the number of credits gained each term. The qualifying number will be decided and announced at the end of the term. This number will change according to the circumstances. There will be more frequent and specific awards made within each year group. Good work and endeavour will be recognised specifically within each subject area and this will take various forms with the emphasis on informing parents of the diligence and successes of their child. Commitment to our community will be recognised and rewarded within the year group. Pupils will be recognised for particular activities in which they demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, commitment to the school community or the wider community in Woolston and Warrington. Privileges will be granted to pupils who have regularly proved to be responsible members of our community. Presentation Evening is an annual presentation of awards where effort and achievement is recognised. SANCTIONS
While we place emphasis on positive behaviour and praise we accept that there will be a need for sanctions for the minority of pupils. ➣ Unsatisfactory work, poor punctuality to lessons and lack of organisation will result in sanctions applied through each faculty. ➣ Poor punctuality to school and a general lack of organisation will be addressed by Heads of Achievement and Form Tutors. ➣ Parents will be kept informed of concerns raised by the Head of Faculty or the Head of Achievement. Unacceptable Behaviour in the classroom: Most pupils will respond to a reminder from the teacher of the behaviour expected of them. Early intervention, through a hierarchy of sanctions, aims to resolve disruption of lessons. Low-level disruption: ➣ First reminder – teacher takes planner to their desk. No further consequence. ➣ Second reminder – teacher signs out the printed credit in the pupil’s planner (awarded for good behaviour). ➣ Third reminder – white slip filled in. Incident logged by Head of Faculty and Head of Achievement. Faculty sanction put in place. Persistent disruption: ➣ Fourth occasion: Five minutes outside the classroom. ➣ Fifth occasion: Removal from the lesson. School Detention: Will be issued for persistently poor behaviour and attitude and will be one hour long. Parents will be informed by letter. School Detentions will be issued to: ➣ Pupils who have not complied with faculty and year sanctions. ➣ Pupils who are referred by members of the school Leadership Team, Heads of Faculty and Heads of Achievement. Privileges: The school reserves the right to withhold privileges in circumstances which the leadership of the school, in consultation with the Head of Achievement, judges necessary. Examples of such privileges are participation in whole year group activities, end of term activities and study leave. Serious incidents will be resolved by the Leadership Team and may result in exclusion from school. Behaviour Support: Early intervention strategies identify pupils who need extra support in managing their behaviour. Pupils will receive support through: ➣ Our pastoral system: Intervention will be provided by the form tutor and the Head of Achievement and may include a Weekly Report, a Pupil Improvement Plan, a formal Disciplinary Interview and School Behaviour Contract. ➣ Behaviour Management Service: Here the pupil will receive more intensive support, outside agency support, an intensive Pupil Improvement Plan and in a few cases will have a Pupil Support Plan.
