Wearing our school uniform is a clear indication that pupils are part of our school community. Pupils are expected to wear our uniform correctly on all school occasions including travelling to and from school and while representing the school at functions or matches. Uniform is also to be worn during educational visits, except where Permission not to do so is specifically granted. Pupils should understand that a visitor’s first impression of a school is based largely on the appearance and behaviour of its pupils. We therefore expect all pupils to make their contribution to enhancing the school’s reputation by setting high standards in these areas.
In formulating policies on jewellery the school takes into account Health and Safety advice. Consequently to minimise risks to pupils both in and out of the classroom the school recommends that pupils do not wear any jewellery at all. If requested or instructed to remove jewellery by a member of staff a pupil must comply with that request. No jewellery as a result of body piercing should be worn. Such items are not appropriate to our working environment. Shirts and ties must be worn correctly, shirts and blouses tucked in and ties fastened properly and at the appropriate length.
The P.E. kit can be obtained from a supplier, details of which will be issued in the summer term or some of it may be obtained from other outlets. All items of clothing should be clearly marked with your child’s name. The PE department sets high standards and all pupils are expected to follow the department policy. Should a pupil be exempt from a PE lesson due to illness or injury, pupils are expected to have a note in order to be excused. In addition to this, pupils should still bring their full PE kit in order to take part in the lesson in a non-physical capacity.
Mobile Phones/ValuablesThe school is aware that many pupils carry mobile phones which can be useful when contacting parents after school events which go beyond the school day. Mobile phones must be switched off during lessons. Parents should note that the school does not accept any responsibility for mobile phones or other valuables brought onto the premises. The inappropriate use of mobile phones is not acceptable Mobile phones are not permitted in examination rooms. This a rule which, if not followed, can and does result in a candidate’s paper being cancelled, leading to a “No result”.
